What is the first thing you do when you start your day?
The first thing I do is check Teams to see if there have been any important developments in the team. If everything is in order, I go straight to my notepad, where I keep track of the progress of the tasks I'm working on. It helps me to keep on track from one day to the next.
What motivates you most about working with technology and the marine industry?
I like to try new environments and approaches that force me to test what I am learning; in development that is key, even more so with AI and all the emerging technology we are experiencing.
The nautical sector, moreover, is a sector that is not yet so technologically evolved, and that for me is very interesting, because sometimes it's like working with a blank canvas, where you can play with new technologies.
Although decisions are made as a team, we always have room to contribute different approaches and propose ideas, and that's where I can also express my creativity.
Email, call or coffee in person? What is your favorite way to connect?
I'm a chat person. For me (and I think for many people in technology) it's the ideal medium: you can share files, photos, text, audio... it's a much richer communication than a “spoken only” conversation.
And if something goes wrong, there's always the wild card of a phone call. Although I'm not going to lie: few things beat a relaxed conversation with a good cup of ColaCao.
Which emoji best defines the way you work?
The one about “head butting against the wall” ????????????
Because it's quite my way of approaching new situations: I'm good at detecting blockages and problems, and then looking at them from different angles until I find the solution. I like to learn new ways of using frameworks, architectures and tools, to have more resources when that “something” doesn't fit... until it does.
Challenge that Spanish ports will have to take up
I think one of the main challenges will be to educate users on the new technologies, so that they discover all that they can do for them. That will bring some friction at the beginning, but when you get past that, mass adoption comes and the change is really noticeable.
